In the first six months of 2022, 259 rhinos were poached for their horn in South Africa as reported by SANPARKS.
Recent rhino poaching statistics indicate a shift away from the Kruger Park and toward private reserves in KwaZulu-Natal, where the bulk of rhinos have been murdered this year.Between January and June 2022, there were 10 more rhino poached in the nation than in the first six months of 2021(249). From January through the end of June 2022, 82 rhinos were poached in the Kruger National Park for their horns.
2022 Poaching records reveal that 210 rhinos have been poached on state land and 49 in privately held parks. As previously stated, KwaZulu-Natal was the heaviest impacted during this period, losing 133 rhinos. This is more than three times the number of rhinos murdered in the first six months of 2021
